"I saw Puck again in my first apartment in Berlin; a storefront sublet in Friedrichshain. I don’t think she cared that the plants in the storefront window weren’t enough to keep pedestrians in passing from seeing her dancing naked in the living room; I laughed so hard - out of freedom, out of disbelief, out of deep love.
We had made a deal, we would share a life here together; she would fill in for me in the places I couldn’t take my own body; and I filled in for her when rest was in season."
A BODY LIKE MINE is a poetic portrait of the young, activist artist Puck. Puck is not her real name, but rather a character she has created and into which she slips during her performances.
While Puck dares to do things and defies expectations, Puck's creator shows herself vulnerable and overwhelmed with the world.
In the film, she reflects on this discrepancy between herself and her character and how she is often misunderstood, judged and fetishised and assigned gender roles she does not want to embody.
A BODY LIKE MINE is a fabulously told documentary. Developed from the joint artistic work between Puck and director Maja Classen, the film gives us an intimate and moving insight into Puck's life plan, her inspirations, fears and experiences.
